V.I.P.

What is a V.I.P.?
V.I.P. is an acronym for Volunteers in Policing. This innovative program is
modeled after a highly successful program in Lee County Florida. All members are
citizen volunteers interested in participating in the operation of the St.
Joseph County Police Department. V.I.P. members will assist sworn police
officers in non-emergency public service assignments, allowing the police
personnel to be more readily available for more urgent public safety and crime
prevention assignments. Members will receive training and direction from the
County Police and Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Certified Instructors in all
operational areas. All assignments are non-confrontational and V.I.P. members
will never be armed and will focus only on service calls.

Why V.I.P.?
The V.I.P. program is your opportunity to partner with the St. Joseph County
Police Department and move toward a common goal, "better utilization of
resources." The demand for law enforcement and public safety services has
increased far faster than governmental budgets. Like many other organizations
today, we are called upon to do more with less. By volunteering for the V.I.P.
program you can utilize your business or personal skills and interests to assist
with functions within the operation of the County Police Department which in
turn will "free up" departmental personnel and help to improve efficiency.
