Training Coordinator

Instructors

The training division is comprised of twenty eight (28) certified trainers through the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board. Their expertise covers:

• two (2) firearm instructors both of which instruct at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. 

• two (2) S.T.O.P.S. instructors

• one (1) non-lethal weapons instructor

• one (1) domestic violence instructor

• one (1) canine instructor/trainer

• one (1) radar instructor

• two (2) DARE instructors

• one (1) defensive tactics instructor

• three (3) correction officer trainers

• two (2) verbal judo instructors

• one (1) community academy instructor

• one (1) Field Training Officer coordinator

• one (1) Pre-basic Academy coordinator

• nine (9) general instructors

Facilities

The facilities include a classroom at the patrol post and a second  classroom  within the new jail facility. A firearm range located in the county that has a small arms course, a shotgun course and a sniper course. The range has a new building that includes a classroom, office, gun cleaning area and storage. The facility is used for both day and night shoots. 

Training Requirements 

Law Enforcement:

• 40 hour Indiana Academy pre-basic course offered by this Department.

•   8 hour Emergency Vehicle Operation offered by this Department.

• 12 weeks Basic Academy offered by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

• 16 hours of training each year for Law Enforcement re-certification.

• Yearly re-certification in Domestic Violence.

• Re-certification every two years in CPR, Blood borne Pathogens and First Responder.

Corrections:

• 80 hour Jail Officer Training Academy offered by this Department and certified by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.

• Completion of the National Sheriff's Association Jail Officer's correspondence course.
