The Saint Joseph County Police Investigative Division is made up of Police officers who are trained in the process of Criminal Investigations for the 21st Century. The Investigative Division is Commanded by Capt. Randy Kaps The Division is made up of sections that handle criminal investigations which fall under the following criminal investigation specialities:

Sex Offender Investigators: Are investigators who go out into the field and make sure Sexual Abusers and Predators register within the county they reside and work by according to Indiana State Law.

Forensic Computer Investigators: Are investigators who investigate criminal activity involving the use of computers being on-line and or being used for storage of illegal material.

 Fraud Investigators: Are investigators who handle crimes such as identity theft, credit card fraud, check deception and any other criminal offense which involves personal finances.

 Internal Affairs Investigators: Are investigators properly trained in the investigation of subjects that are employed within the department for various offenses which would included department policy violations and criminal investigations.

 Polygraph Examiner: An investigator that are trained in the use of the polygraph along with all currant laws pertaining to the use of the polygraph in criminal, pre-screening employment and internal investigations.

Criminal Investigation Investigators: Are investigators who handle such crimes as, Armed Robbery, Assault, Burglary, Auto Theft, and other Criminal Investigations.

 Juvenile Investigators: Are investigators who handle all the above crimes dealing with Juveniles along with handling other juvenile matters such as runaway investigations.

Crime Scene Investigators: Are Investigators that assist other investigators in the collections of evidence and crime scene preservation by documentation by Digital Photography and the use of other crime prevention materials such as dusting for fingerprints and the collection of evidence for future testing for DNA.

 Crime Prevention Investigators: Are Investigators who go out in the field to educate the public and help make them aware of how to keep their community safe. They also instruct on the proper use of Child Restraints in a vehicle.

Property Room Manager: The Property Room is managed by a Deputy who takes in all collected evidence or held property and makes sure it was properly marked, dated, and handled so that it may be retained and secured in The St Joseph County Police Property Room until its use in the criminal trials its release.
