Dare History

The St. Joseph County Police Department's D.A.R.E program was implemented in 1996. Since that time, thousands of 5th and 6th grade students have successfully graduated from our program. The D.A.R.E program teaches our youth's to resist the pressures and to understand the consequences of using drugs.
The main goal of our program is to educate our children on the dangers involved in using drugs such as: Alcohol, Marijuana, And Tobacco products. The D.A.R.E programs message also includes lessons about self-esteem, peer pressure, stress, and consequences. Having uniformed police officers in our schools helps to build a positive relationship between our police department and our children. Our presence in and around the schools also helps to reassure the safety in our school communities.
