Communications
The St. Joseph County Police Communications Center is the first line of contact for anyone calling for assistance from law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical service within St. Joseph County. The communication center serves as the primary Public Safety Answering Point (P.S.A.P) for the entire county, this includes both wire-lined and wireless traffic.
The Communications Center dispatches for seven different law enforcement agencies within St. Joseph County;
-Roseland Police Department
-New Carlisle Police Department
-Lakeville Police Department
-North Liberty Police Department
-Osceola Police Department
-Michiana Regional Airport
-Indiana State Police Department of Natural Resources
In addition to answering calls for service, Communications maintains the
Indiana Data and Communications (IDACS) and the National Crime and Information
Center (NCIC) record entries for all law enforcement agencies within St. Joseph
County's jurisdiction through the Indiana State Police and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation.
For the calendar year 2004, the St. Joseph County Police Department Communications Center answered a total of 51,405 calls for service that resulted in an entry into the computer aided dispatch system. Recently, a study was conducted for the year 2004 monitoring the number of calls coming into the Communications Center. The result of that study showed that a total of 253,589 calls were received,
